01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Set on the second floor of a Nihonbashi Tomizawacho building, Bar RENRi radiates a warm light while exploring mixology grounded in the local produce and traditions of Japan. The wood-toned counter seats roughly 9 guests, providing an intimate vantage point to watch each drink come together. Every creation draws on ingredients and stories tied to a specific region, with many poured into ceramic cups and vessels sourced directly from pottery kilns across the country.

Signature serves on the menu bear the names of Japanese prefectures. "Ippuku," inspired by Kyoto, pairs maewari pre-diluted Ki No Bi gin with Kyoto sencha, Taiwanese oolong, and cherry blossom and hinoki cypress bitters in a martini format. For Kanagawa, "Re:tter" layers cognac with roasted sweet potato shochu, sudachi citrus, and chocolate-banana notes, presented in Otani ware pottery with a resonant finish. Guests can also share their personal tastes and moods with the bartender for a tailored creation.

Those forgoing alcohol will find thoughtful non-alcoholic options crafted with teas and spices. "Hiyoku" builds depth through roasted green tea, berries, and sansho pepper, while "Umajimura Sour" balances Kochi's Gokkun Umajimura yuzu drink with clarified tomato and dried bonito flakes. Offerings such as "Mock Of Tea," which marries Shizuoka wasabi and brown rice tea hydrosol with Japanese black tea and sencha meringue, showcase tea aromatics and contrasting textures.

Behind the counter, the spirits collection ranges from Japanese labels like Yoichi 10 Year, Hakushu 12 Year, and Hibiki Blender's Choice to a broad array of Scotch whiskies. Open from 16:00 in the evening until 0:00 past midnight, it works equally well whether reserved in advance or visited on a whim for a tranquil nightcap.
